Ice Machine at Palm Harbor
– The Ice Machine at Palm Harbor is intended for those of you that keep a boat at Palm Harbor. It is a benefit like the free CATV. Palm Harbor is slightly higher in cost than Yacht Harbor and Island Cove because of these little extras and the high quality docks, restrooms and other amenities. Please don’t raid the ice machine at Palm Harbor if you do not have a boat there. We have Ice at Island Cove and the Ice machines located on Barrancas only charge $1.25 for 20lbs. Please don’t tell your friends to come get free Ice. The machine holds 1000 lbs and makes 500lbs in 24 hours and it has been cleaned out every weekend. Please be considerate of other people and don’t waste ice it is intended as a convenience. The machine is working fine we chained it closed for 48 hours and it made 1000 lbs. If the problem continues we may try a pad lock and give everyone at Palm Harbor the combination. Thank you.Fun on the Forth–
In addition to the fire works the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club is having there annual International Bill Fish Tournament. The way-in will be in Villa De Luna Park. On the evening of the forth the place to be will be Pensacola Bay in front of Villa De Luna Park. The weigh-in is always fun and it should be a busy place. On Saturday the 4th fireworks will be downtown and at the beach at sundown.Repairs and upgrades –
The broken piling has been replaced at Palm harbor and another removed. We have been planting purple heart and trimming the palm trees which is a never ending job. We have been replacing dock boards at Island Cove. We will be putting up an awning and adding table and chairs on the beach deck at Island Cove. We have increased dumpster pick ups at Yacht Harbor and Palm Harbor to help reduce the fish smell. We are also treating them with chlorine. We will keep on it to keep the smell minimized. We have replaced the fans outside at the club house with new ones.Electrical issues –
Every summer people are shocked at there electrical bills. The marinas electrical bill has more than doubled this month and will continue to climb for the summer. We have had temperatures off the scale this past month so don’t be shocked. If it is 95 out side it may be 115 in your closed boat. Even if you set the temp at 85 that’s a 20 degree difference. Boats have almost no insulation and we are seeing AC water pumps on many boats running all day. That may equate to a $100 or even a $200 electric bill. Turn off the AC units or be prepared for a killer bill. The electric meters work fine.Party Time –
Saturday August 8th is our big customer appreciation party. Tug Boat Willies band will be playing and Allen Woolford is doing the art work for the tee shirts. If you have never been to one of these parties you need to make it a point to come. Last year we had about 200 people. The food is great the margaritas are cold the music is Jazz and fun is had by all. If you would like to move your boat over to Island Cove for the party let us know its no charge. Official invitations will go out with the next news letter.
Bayou Dredging
– The dredging is complete and the dredge contractor is packing up there equipment and leaving the Bayou. Between scratched gel coat, boat traffic restrictions, and the noise, I am sure that everyone is happy to see them leave. The entire project was finally completed with the exception of half the turn basin at end of the Bayou. Dredging was slow and challenging because of years of debris like anchors and chain left in the Bayou. The debris stops up the cutter head on the dredge and it needs to be cleared manually which takes a lot of time. The channel is 75’ wide and 18’ deep and the turn basin is 500" by 250’ instead of 500’ by 500’. The Corps ran out of money at the end. The good news is that the main channel has been cleared and the water flow and quality in the Bayou should increase drastically.

Once again over 200 people attended from our family of Marinas, Island Cove, Palm Harbor, and Yacht Harbor. The Tug Boat Willy band turned out again this year but without Tug Boat Willey. Willey couldn't make it but his band still rocked the place. Everybody had a great time listening to the blues and dancing to the rock. Thanks to all that brought a side dish. We look forward to next years party.
