Marina News May 2008
Yacht Harbor Marina
– The TransMontaigne fuel terminal will be suspending fuel delivery in a couple of months so that they can refit and repair the fuel tanks. This will mean no barge traffic for several months. The exact schedule is not set but we will keep you informed.Palm Harbor Marina
– Both Palm Harbor and Yacht Harbor should start to see some of the sediment on the bottom in the marinas start to move out towards the channel as the water flow increases from the dredge. We don’t expect a great depth difference, a foot or more at the end slips, but every little bit helps. The increased flow will help the water quality as well.Island Cove Marina
– The landscaping at the entrance of Island Cove is complete and it is a great improvement. We hope to move our 8,000 lb Navy Anchor in place on the corner between the upper parking lot and the lower parking lot this week.
Bayou Dredging –
The dredging is complete and the dredge contractor is packing up there equipment and leaving the Bayou. Between scratched gel coat, boat traffic restrictions, and the noise, I am sure that everyone is happy to see them leave. The entire project was finally completed with the exception of half the turn basin at end of the Bayou. Dredging was slow and challenging because of years of debris like anchors and chain left in the Bayou. The debris stops up the cutter head on the dredge and it needs to be cleared manually which takes a lot of time. The channel is 75’ wide and 18’ deep and the turn basin is 500" by 250’ instead of 500’ by 500’. The Corps ran out of money at the end. The good news is that the main channel has been cleared and the water flow and quality in the Bayou should increase drastically.Customer Appreciation Party –
Our annual customer appreciation party is tentatively scheduled for Saturday August 9th which is National Marina Day. Because of the current economic conditions, the price of fuel, insurance, and boating expenses in general we have decided to change the theme of this year’s party from "Margarita Madness" to "Boaters Blues". We will have "Boaters Blues" tee shirts to give away and hope to have Tugboat Willie and his band back to play some blues for us. Our party gets better and better every year and this year will be no exception

The Party was great. Over 200 people attended from our family of Marinas, Island Cove, Palm Harbor, and Yacht Harbor. Tug Boat Willy band turned out to be a great success. The fish was fried by Jimmy from the Dog House Deli on Palafox St, and we had nothing but complements on the food. We look forward to next years party.
